From corporate counsel to board leader William F. Grieco guides Acadia Healthcare strategy
William F. Grieco has built a three-decade career at the intersection of law, corporate governance and healthcare, earning recognition as a steadying presence on multiple corporate boards. He joined Acadia Healthcare as a director in November 2011 and brings to the role deep experience in compliance and regulatory strategy that is central to behavioral health operations.
Since 2008, Grieco has led Arcadia Strategies, LLC, a consulting firm that advises healthcare, science and technology companies on legal and business matters. That work follows senior in-house legal roles across the healthcare and medical technology sectors. From 2003 to 2008 he was Senior Vice President and General Counsel at American Science and Engineering, Inc., a firm specializing in x-ray inspection technology. He served in a similar capacity at IDX Systems Corporation from 2001 to 2002, and earlier was Senior Vice President and General Counsel for Fresenius Medical Care North America from 1995 to 1999.
Before moving into corporate legal leadership, Grieco was a partner at the Boston law firm Choate, Hall & Stewart. His board experience extends beyond Acadia; he served on the board of PHC, Inc. from February 1997 until November 2011 and has been a director of Echo Therapeutics Inc. since February 2011. Those roles have given him a long view of governance challenges in regulated industries, from startups to established public companies.
Grieco also holds executive compliance responsibilities, underscoring the link between legal oversight and operational integrity. His background in both advisory and in-house positions allows him to translate complex regulatory requirements into practical governance measures for management and boards.
A graduate of Boston College, Grieco combines legal training with business acumen, positioning him to advise on risk mitigation, regulatory compliance and strategic growth initiatives. Colleagues and industry observers point to his steady, pragmatic approach when confronting issues such as patient safety, data privacy and evolving regulatory standards.
As Acadia Healthcare and other providers navigate a shifting behavioral health landscape, board directors with legal and compliance expertise are increasingly valuable. William F. Grieco’s blend of boardroom experience, in-house counsel roles and advisory practice places him among those influencing how healthcare organizations align governance with patient care and business objectives.
