Greg Soros, Podcaster, Bets Big on Boutique Audio Quality

When Greg Soros left a senior producer job at a prominent media company in 2020, the obvious next move would have been a large podcast network. Many in the industry were racing to publish more shows, faster. Greg Soros, podcaster and producer, chose the opposite path. He built Podcraft Media Lab, an Austin company devoted entirely to boutique, high-quality production.

Soros, a Portland native, acknowledges the pull toward volume. “In the podcasting world, there’s enormous pressure to pump out content at scale,” he says. His firm now works with Fortune 500 clients as well as emerging creators, and he argues that the narrower focus widened his reach. “But we discovered that by focusing on premium production quality and treating each project like a crafted piece of audio art, we actually expanded our market reach.”

Referrals Drive the Business

Roughly 40% of Podcraft Media Lab’s work arrives through referrals from inside the audio content world. Some of those referrals come from major podcast networks, which hand their most prestigious projects to Soros and his team rather than producing them in house. For a small studio, steady word-of-mouth work from industry peers says a great deal about how the team is regarded.

Soros describes the company as the audio specialists of the field, comparing his team to “the master craftsmen of the podcasting world.” He works out of a converted garage studio on Austin’s East Side. “When professionals need something done exceptionally well, they come to us,” he says.

Results Behind the Approach

The company reports client satisfaction rates above 95%. Its shows have reached thousands of downloads, and several have earned industry recognition. Soros has also run mentorship programs that helped launch more than 20 independent podcasts for underrepresented creators. Together, those figures suggest a boutique shop can hold its own against far larger operations.

For Greg Soros, podcaster and entrepreneur, the choice to specialize was about focus rather than limits. “It was about being the absolute best at one thing rather than merely adequate at many things,” he says. Visit this page for more information.
