Facial Plastic Surgery as Service The Work of Dr. Andrew Jacono
Most discussions of facial plastic surgery focus on aesthetic outcomes and patient satisfaction scores. Dr. Andrew Jacono operates in that world, but he has also spent years building a parallel practice where the same surgical techniques serve people whose need is shaped by violence, poverty, or circumstance rather than preference.
A New York-based dual board-certified facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Jacono has developed what amounts to two simultaneous careers. One serves patients in a Park Avenue practice. The other, equally demanding, serves domestic violence survivors through pro bono reconstructive work and children abroad through international surgical missions.
More Than 100 Survivors Treated
Dr. Andrew Jacono’s connection to the FACE TO FACE project of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery dates back years. As senior advisor to the program, he has completed facial reconstruction procedures for more than 100 domestic violence survivors, donating his services entirely.
The psychological stakes of this work are significant. When abuse leaves visible facial scarring or disfigurement, survivors face a daily confrontation with their trauma every time they look in a mirror or interact with others. Reconstructive surgery can eliminate those physical reminders, clearing a path toward recovery that purely psychological treatment cannot fully address.
National recognition followed. The Center for the Women of New York honored Dr. Jacono with a “Good Guy” Award in 2006. Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy entered commendations in the Congressional Record. He served as chair of ABOUT FACE: MAKING CHANGES for nine consecutive years, helping raise funds and awareness for survivors of domestic violence.
Pediatric Missions Across Four Continents
Dr. Andrew Jacono has performed surgery on more than 750 children during international missions to Colombia, Ecuador, Thailand, Vietnam, and other countries. His mission partners include Healing the Children, the HUGS Foundation, and THAI Children. The deformities he treats, from cleft lip and palate to microtia and burn scarring, often prevent affected children from accessing education and participating in community life.
Fundraising for these missions has included climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, Cotopaxi, and Mount Elbrus. His roles as Fellowship Director for the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and as an academic faculty member at Albert Einstein College of Medicine position him to train surgeons who will carry the humanitarian commitment forward.
