Congress Once Honored Dr. Andrew Jacono’s Charity Record

A commendation in the Congressional Record is not the kind of recognition most cosmetic surgeons receive, but U.S. Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy formally honored Dr. Andrew Jacono for his contributions to women’s welfare through reconstructive surgery and charity work. The tribute reflected years of pro bono service that ran parallel to his Park Avenue practice.

The Center for the Women of New York had already recognized Dr. Jacono in 2006 with a Good Guy Award for his advocacy and pro bono contributions. Both honors trace back to his involvement with the FACE TO FACE project, run by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, where he serves as senior advisor and has personally reconstructed the faces of more than 100 survivors of domestic violence.

A Decade Chairing an Annual Benefit

For nine years, Dr. Andrew Jacono chaired ABOUT FACE: MAKING CHANGES, an annual benefit supporting survivors of domestic violence, work that ran alongside his role in a television series called Facing Trauma. The show aired on Discovery Fit & Health and later the Oprah Winfrey Network, documenting his reconstructive surgeries for survivors of abuse and other traumatic injuries.

That recognition tells only part of the story. Dr. Jacono has also treated more than 750 children abroad for cleft lips, cleft palates, microtia, facial tumors, and burn scars, traveling to Colombia, Ecuador, Thailand, and Vietnam through organizations including Healing the Children and the HUGS Foundation.

Honors That Point to a Broader Career

He has climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, Cotopaxi, and Mount Elbrus to raise money for both his domestic and international humanitarian work, treating the climbs as fundraising vehicles rather than personal milestones.

As Fellowship Director for the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Dr. Jacono continues shaping how younger surgeons view the relationship between technical skill and charitable obligation, a theme that runs through every award his career has earned so far.
